PARKS BOARD REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
December 2010
RECREATION PROGRAMS /EVENTS UPDATE:
Home for the Holidays
Home for the Holidays Tree Lighting event took place on November 20. The weather was
great as over 7,000 watched Santa light the tree and the square to kick off the beginning
of the holiday season. It takes over 200,000 LED lights to light up the Town Hall building
and over 200 trees throughout Rustin and Frank Cornish Park. Those who attended the
event also enjoyed activities such as photos with Santa, carriage rides, arts and crafts
and holiday performances from the CISD choirs and other local performers. It was a great
event and the Community Services Department would like to thank the other City
Departments who assisted in making the event a success.
Santa's Workshop — Santa's Workshop is a pre - school event for ages 3 -5 and will take
place on December 4 at Durham Intermediate /Elementary Cafeteria. Event activities
include holiday themed arts and crafts, special treats and lots of fun activities. This event
is Sold Out.
Breakfast with Santa —The event will take place on December 11 at Town Hall. The little
ones will get the opportunity to eat breakfast and take photos with Santa. This event is
Sold Out.
Youth Basketball season will begin the first weekend in December. The ages are 6 -14
years old. Games will be played December through the end of February.
Look for the Winter /Spring 2011 Southlake Scene. It will hit mailboxes in early December.

The Community Services Department and Park and Recreation Board hope you and your
families have enjoyed the holiday events at Town Square during November and invite the
Council and our residents to come out and enjoy the fun, family events that will continue
through December and the following months.

COMMUNITY SERVICES UPDATE:
• On Saturday, October 30, the S.W.A.T. (Southlake Working As A Team) community
initiative, hosted their 3 rd community work day, planting flowers at the Department of
Public Safety West building and painting and landscaping at Bicentennial Park as just
a couple of the six projects volunteers completed that day. Volunteers were asked to
joint S.W.A.T. to trim trees and bushes, grind stumps, and weed and mulch flower
beds. Thank you to the S.W.A.T. volunteers for the landscaping improvements!
PARK PROJECTS UPDATE:
• Bicentennial Park Phase 1 (most components are about 80% complete — tennis
courts, ticket booths, and fencing is nearly complete, work progressing on bridge,
baseball fields and streets)
• North Park (design underway) — SPDC and City Council approved Dean Electric as
Construction Manager at Risk for North Park at their November 2 meetings.
