Item 4CSPIN Report Tuesday, September 7, 2004 The SPIN Standing Committee respectfully submits this written report in an effort to maintain communication flow between the Standing Committee and the City Council 1. SPIN Standing Committee Meeting Recap — The SPIN Standing Committee held a second Joint City Council meeting and business meeting on August 10, 2004. Below is a summary of the issues addressed at the meeting: • SPIN Calendar of Events / Recap of Recent SPIN Events and Activities • Discussion of Reviewing the SPIN Ordinance — The Standing Committee reviewed Ordinance No. 598 -A (The SPIN Ordinance) and recommends no changes to the Ordinance at this time. At future meetings, they will review the Ordinance Exhibits, the Articles of Incorporation (Including the Code of Conduct), and the SPIN Map. • Review the Marketing and Media Plan for the Regional Economic Forum on September 14, 2004 — The Standing Committee reviewed the Marketing and Media Plan for the September 14, 2004 Regional Economic Forum and provided feedback on the marketing materials and the plan components. The Standing Committee held a follow -up meeting on Tuesday, August 17 and finaled the details of the plan and the marketing materials. • Neighborhood Reports and Open Forum 2. Recap of Recent SPIN Meetings — There were no SPIN Meetings held since the last report. 3. Calendar of Events — Upcoming SPIN Meetings and Events for September are the following: • Tuesday, September 14 — SPIN Town Hall Meeting: Regional Economic Forum. The Southlake Program for the Involvement of Neighborhoods (S.P.LN.) in partnership with The Southlake Chamber of Commerce and City of Southlake is proud to announce a new series of public forums, beginning September 14, 2004 at 7:00 pm in the 3 rd Floor Conference Room of Southlake Town Hall. The Regional Economic Forum will provide an overview of emerging economic trends in the North Texas Region and the implications for the Southlake community, neighboring cities, and area residents. Guest speakers include Dr. Bernard Weinstein from the University of North Texas, School of Community Services discussing regional population trends, growth, employment, and future opportunities or pitfalls facing area cities. Dr. Weinstein and Dr. Baen joined by Gary Fickes, former Mayor of Southlake, Anita Miller, former President of the Southlake Chamber, and Greg Last, Director of Economic Development for the City of Southlake will host a discussion panel inviting the public to participate in a Q & A session with the panel members.
