Item 4CSPIN Report Tuesday, August 3, 2004 The SPIN Standing Committee respectfully submits this written report in an effort to maintain communication flow between the Standing Committee and the City Council SPIN Standing Committee Meeting — The next SPIN Standing Committee Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m., Training Rooms #3c and #3d. 2. July SPIN Standing Committee Meeting Recap — The SPIN Standing Committee held their monthly meeting on Thursday, July 15th Below is a summary of issues addressed at the meeting: Discussion of Special Election to fill the position of Secretary — With your appointment of Brandon Bledsoe to the Planning and Zoning Commission, the SPIN Articles of Incorporation go into effect regarding the succession of the Chair. Roger Hutton ( 911) has assumed the Chair position (moving from Vice - Chair), and Mike Terry ( #13) has assumed the duties of the Vice -Chair position (moving from Secretary). The Standing Committee will fill the Secretary position for the remainder of the year at their August meeting. Approval of a recommendation to the City Manager regarding the SPIN FY 2004 -05 Annual Operating Budget — At the June meeting, the Standing Committee appointed a sub - committee to look over the budget and make a recommendation to the Standing Committee. With the help of Finance Director Sharen Elam, the subcommittee provided a recommendation to the Standing Committee, which in turn approved this recommendation regarding the SPIN budget to the City Manager. Discussion on Filling SPIN Vacancies — The Standing Committee discussed putting priority on getting the remaining vacancies filled. Chair Hutton has made this a priority, since the discussion he has gotten two commitments for SPIN areas #2 and filling the #9e vacancy left by Brandon's appointment to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Currently staff is cold - calling members of the recent Leadership Southlake Class and forwarding the contact information of interested individuals to Roger for follow -up from the Standing Committee. An identified goal is to have appointments on your agenda for the August 17 City Council meeting. • Neighborhood Reports • Open Forum 3 Recap of Recent SPIN Meetings — SPIN hosted the following meetings during the month of July_ • Monday, July 19 — SPIN Citywide Forum. Topic Proposed Garden Office Buildings at the NW Corner of Shady Oaks and F.M. 1709. Topic Proposed residential development on the North Side of Dove Road, adjacent to Carroll Middle School. This meeting was held at 8:30 p.m. • Wednesday, July 21 s t — SPIN Citywide Forum for Neighborhoods 92, 93, and 95. Topic Proposed Tara Lakes Residential Development located in the vicinity of Dove Road and North White Chapel Blvd. 4. Calendar of Events — There were no requests received for neighborhood meetings for the August 3 or August 16 SPIN Meeting Dates. • Tuesday, September 14, 2004 — Town Hall Meeting: Regional Economic Forum. Southlake Town Hall, 7:00 p.m. Third Floor Training Rooms. Staff is currently finalizing the speakers for this event. Tentative speakers include Dr. Bernard Weinstein of the University of North Texas School of Community Services; Dr. John Baen of the University of North Texas College of Business Administration; Greg Last; and representatives from the Southlake Chamber of Commerce.
