Within the last few months we've made some personal decisions which significantly affect our private, professional, and public activities. It is with great sadness to inform you that my wife and I will be leaving Southlake on June 28 As such, I offer my resignation from the City Council and the following boards and committees as of that date: President of the Southlake Parks Development Corporation Chairman of the Southlake Joint Use Committee Chairman Southlake Tax Increment Re- investment (TIF) Board Council Representative on Art Advisory Committee Council Representative on Drug &Alcohol Awareness Committee I plan to continue to fulfill my City Council commitments until the citizens of Southlake can elect my replacement. Similarly, I will continue to serve the committees and boards until you appoint my replacement. I urge you to do so as soon as possible. If any of you had asked me earlier this year whether I would consider leaving so many friends and this wonderful city that I so dearly love, I would have thought it totally out of the question; but life can change so quickly and my wife and I are now embarking on a new adventure. Our 7th Street Grill restaurant we purchased last year is doing very well and it is experiencing many new and thrilling changes. Likewise, we recently sold our Southlake home within 10 days thereby causing us to finalize some significant decisions rather quickly. These decisions have been tough, and anyone who knows me, knows I would not do this unless I truly believe it is the best for my wife, my family, and for the city of Southlake. Its will be truly a new experience for all of my family and we are cautiously looking forward to the coming months. So, where are we moving to? Well it probably makes sense for this Lone Ranger, as my last political opponent dubbed me, to move west to Fort Worth; the city where my wife and I went to high school together, where we were married 27+ years ago, where both of our children were born, and where I've worked for Lockheed Martin for some 25 years. With our home selling so quickly, we will be moving temporarily to an apartment by June 28th on the west side of Fort Worth near both of our work places; until we can find a condo in downtown Fort Worth. With the office building, where our restaurant is located on the bottom floor, being purchased and the upper floors being converted to condos, our hope is to buy a condo where we can live and work in the same building in downtown Fort Worth. Like our 12 years of wonderful experiences in Southlake, we want to be significantly involved in the Fort Worth community including the revitalization of the southern side of downtown. You might say a little prayer for the Fort Worth City Council, especially Wendy Davis, she's going to get my help and my support. Thank you all for all your support. I will cherish the many memories. I feel good knowing that I'm leaving the city in your hands. Just remember, I will be watching all of you and I have each of your personal telephone numbers; don't think I won't call you. I'm proud of you all and I wish you and Southlake a wonderful future. Rex Potter Mayor Pro Tem Southlake City Council file: / /D: \City Secretary's Office \Resignation Letter.html.htm 1/26/2011
