Item 4DLibrary Board Report
Wednesday, April 28, 2004
The Southlake Library Board respectfully submits this written report in an effort to maintain
communication flow between the Board and City Council.
The Southlake Library Board held their meeting on Wednesday, April 28, 2004. Below is a
summary of the issues addressed at the meeting.
Librarians Report — Library Administrator Kerry McGeath reviewed with the Board the
activity of the past Month and indicated that the number of items that checked out from the
Library was up 46% for the same period last year, and that Traffic was up around 30 %.
Issues before the Board — The Library would like to begin checking out all back issues of
magazines (the current copy would not be available). We consistently and frequently receive
Customer requests for magazines to be checked out. We are opening discussion on the issue
of adding 4 more service hours (2 on Weds and 2 on Friday) since staff is scheduled through
that time, it would not require additional staff. We are also having a final discussion about
our Computer Use Policy and as to whether the Board recommends that computer use be tied
to having a library card, and some procedures to boost enforcement if our electronic
resources are misused.
• Workshops and Conferences — The Library is beginning to complete a variety of in house
training in order to cross -train all staff to allow us to more efficiently utilize staff throughout
the Library. They have completed training using Microsoft Office software and how to
successfully search for information using electronic databases and the Internet.
