Item 4A1October has been designated as 5Vational Domestic violence Awareness Yonth to bring awareness to our communities that domestic violence crosses all racial, social, economic, and educationallevels of oursociety andit is a problem that can only be overcome by the involvement of the entire community; and, Whereas, OpenArms Aome and theirau.)iliaries -work kto provide shelter, healing and training to bring peace and safety for survivors of domestic violence and have joined forces with the community to honor these survivors of domestic violence by holding the 7th Annual Candlelight vigil on October 22, 2005; and, ` Whereas, the candlelight vigil is held to honor the police officers who risk their lives to protect the victims of domestic violence and to acknowledge the many individuals, churches, businesses andgroups who support the efforts by volunteering and contributing to combat this problem; and, Whereas, most of all, the candlelight vigil is to honor the survivors of family violence who, by their courage and commitment to providing safety for themselves and their children, have begun new lives free of abuse, and to remember those who have lost their lives at the hand of someone they loved; now, qfierefore, I, Andy Wambsganss, 3layorof the City ofSouthlake, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim October2005, as Domestic Violence Awareness 9W ontFi and urge all citizens to honor these survivors and to help put an end to this tragic cycle in our communities throughout the year.
