Item 5FCity of Southlake, Texas

July 7, 2005
TO: Shana Yelverton, City Manager
FROM: Malcolm Jackson, Director of Community Services
SUBJECT: Approval of name for the proposed Dog Park to be located in Bob Jones Park
Action Requested: Council approval of the selection of a name for the proposed Dog Park to be
located in Bob Jones Park.
Background
Information: The Park Board recently approved the site location for a Dog Park in Bob
Jones Park at the regular meeting on January 10, 2005. The Board also
approved a Matching Funds request in the amount of $12,500 at the March
14, 2005, regular meeting for BooBoo's Buddies, the local dog park
fundraising entity. The funding request was subsequently unanimously
approved by SPDC and the City Council.
Boo -Boo's Buddies is currently planning the third annual pet event for late
October of this year. With the site already chosen and the funding approved,
every attempt is being made to coordinate the pet event with the grand
opening of the dog park. As such, the need exists to formally choose a name
for the dog park to solidify marketing materials for the dog park and any
associated events.
Jan Ekonomy, the lead contact for the BooBoo's Buddies organization, was
contacted by the Community Services Department to solicit input for the
naming of the dog park. The preferred name for the park as chosen by
BooBoo's Buddies and forwarded by staff is `BooBoo's Buddies
Community Dog Park." An informational flier is attached to this memo
describing the impetus for the name.
