Exchange Pipeline The City of Southlake's Community Services Department has long partnered with the local affiliate of Sister Cities International to provide the following scope of services: • Act as the official liaison between Southlake's sister cities of Toyoma, Japan and El Fuerte, Mexico • Serve as host for visitors from Southlake's Sister Cities, including assisting with overnight accommodations, meals, touring, official receptions, etc. • Provide the citizens of Southlake with information on the sister cities through a variety of educational programs • Promote the Southlake Sister Cities program • Represent the Southlake in exchange visits to the sister cities The responsibilities of the Sister Cities and Community Services Departments are outlined in the Community Services Agreement as follows: I\ . • Southlake Sister Cities Board of Directors shall meet periodically, with a time, date, place, and agenda soley defined by Southlake Sister Cities • Southlake Sister Cities shall operate in accordance with its own approved by -laws • The City shall have the right to review the books and records kept incident to the services provided by Southlake Sister Cities to the City • A liaison will be provided by the City to assist Southlake Sister Cities in coordinating Southlake Sister Cities and City operations • City shall provide staff assistance, advice, and technical expertise where feasible to aid Southlake Sister Cities 4—. City shall provide limited administrative support to Southlake Sister Cities, where feasible • City shall provide a meeting space for Southlake Sister Cities Board of Directors meetings • City may provide gifts to the sister cities on appropriate occasions as is customary. t- - - Formatted: Bullets and Numbering Outdoor Kids Adventure Day A Strong Local Collaborative Effort Several local entities have again pooled their resources to provide two days of action and adventure - packed fun in the Great Outdoors. The Parks and Recreation Departmnets from the cities of Southlake, Grapevine, Coppell, Keller, as well as representatives of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Departmnet, team up to offer area youngsters the opportunity to have fun outdoors and learn a little about the local habitats. The event will be held on April 9— 10 (from 9-5 on Saturday and 9 — 4 on Sunday) this year at Grapevine's Meadowmeare Park adjacent to Lake Grapevine. The slate of activities that are expected to be offered will be kayaking, fishing, rock climbing, mountain biking, among several things. And of course, the best part about it all is that it is free to the public. For more information, contact the City of Southlake's Parks and Recreation Department at 817 - 481 -2374. There is also formation contained on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's web site at www.tpwd.state.tx.us Preventing Litter Please consider the following tips from Keep America Beautiful to help keep or parks and trails clean: • Don't assume "someone else" will pick up your trash. • Secure your curbside waste. Poor handling leads to a primary source of litter. • Keep a trash bag in your car. • Organize a clean -up day and adopt some areas to use as examples of "clean zones." Bob Jones Nature Center Second Annual Photo Contest Underway Following in the footsteps of the largely popular inaugural event, friends of the Bob Jones Nature Center are again organizing a nature photo contest to capture the beautiful and unique flora and fauna in and around the Bob Jones Park / Corps of Engineers properties. The contest is a very substantial undertaking and last throughout the spring and in to fall (April 1 to October 31). Any photograph taken in the Bob Jones Park area is eligible, but preferences are given to those that involve plant and animal subject matter. There are three main entry categories: Children (12 years and under), Teen (13 to 19 years), and Adult (Novice). Up to three entries per person will be accepted. Interested participants can pick up an entry form in the Community Center at Bicentennial Park.
