Item 5OCity of Southlake, Texas MEMORANDUM May 31, 2006 TO: Shana Yelverton, City Manager FROM: Ken Baker, AICP, Planning Director SUBJECT: Recommended Sidewalk Projects for FY 2006 Action Requested: Approve the proposed sidewalk projects for construction using FY 05 -06 Capital Improvement Plan funds (Strategic Initiative Funds and Southlake Parks Development Corporation Funds) Background Information: Strategic Initiative Fund Projects The FY 2005 — 06 budget earmarked $200,000 in the Strategic Initiative Fund for various sidewalk projects throughout the city. Based on the 2005 Pathways Plan, existing trail /sidewalk network, and city destinations, specifically schools; City staff is recommending the following sections for funding during this fiscal year's budget: 1. North Carroll Avenue from Estes Park to Carroll Meadows; 2. North Carroll Avenue from Taylor Street to Carroll Middle School; 3. Silicon Drive from Nolen Drive to Dragon Stadium; 4. W. Continental Boulevard from Deer Hollow Boulevard to Peytonville Avenue along the north side of Continental Blvd.; 5. Continental Boulevard from Old Union Elementary School to Carroll Avenue along Noble Oaks Park 6. Byron Nelson from Parkwood Drive to F.M. 1709 along the city property; 7. F.M. 1709 at Foxborough; and 8. S. Carroll Avenue from Westmont Dr. to the future Shops of Southlake. Southlake Parks Development Corporation Projects The FY 2005 -06 SPDC fund earmarked $110,000 for trail projects in the city, north of F.M. 1709. The recommended trail section to be constructed utilizing SPDC funds is: o Shady Oak trail from F.M. 1709 to Love Henry Court linking Durham Intermediate School to Bicentennial Park SPDC trail projects have to be recommended by the Park Board and approved by the SPDC prior to commencement. This item is scheduled to be heard by the Park Board at its June 12, 2006 meeting and by the SPDC at its June 20, 2006 meeting. The width of the recommended sections is based on the width of the trail /sidewalk specified in the 2005 Pathways Master Plan or 5' along all other segments. Attached with this memo are maps depicting the location and details of each of the proposed segments. The construction of these sidewalks is proposed to be managed by the Public Works Department. Public Works is proposing to construct these projects through the use of an interlocal agreement with the City of Grapevine. The City of Grapevine has an annual contract for the construction of concrete flatwork suitable for constructing concrete sidewalks.
