Item 5CCity of Southlake, Texas M E M O R A N D U M April 9, 2006 TO: Shana Yelverton, City Manager FROM: Steve Polasek, Director of Community Services Appoint two City Council Members to participate in the Bicentennial Park SUBJECT: Planning Work Group Action Requested: City Council appointment of two members to participate in the Bicentennial Park Planning Work Group. Background Information: The City Council recently approved entering into an agreement with the firm of Schrickel, Rollins and Associates to perform professional planning services for Bicentennial Park to include master planning and schematic design. The project is intended to incorporate the undeveloped west side of the park, as well as the existing developed east portions. Given the scope of the project, impact within the community, and potential long term financial implications as it relates to development, staff is seeking representation from the City Council on a planning work group. In addition to the proposal to seek Council participation, the Bicentennial Park Planning Work Group will consists of three Parks Board members (Bobby Rawls, Cara White, and John Slocum), two members from the Southlake Baseball Association, and City staff. The purpose of the work group is to provide the consultants with input during the planning and design process. In addition to the work group, staff also anticipates the inclusion of stakeholder input through the coordination of a public forum and specific user group meetings (ex. Southlake Tennis Center, Safety Town, Liberty Garden). Financial Consideration: Not applicable. Financial Impact: Not applicable. Citizen Input/ Board Review: The Parks Board at their February 16, 2006 meeting appointed (7-0) members John Slocum, Bobby Rawls, and Cara White to participate on the Work Group.
