Item 10CCity of Southlake Department of Planning S T A F F R E P O R T March 29, 2006 SP 06-182 CASE NO: Sign Variance for The Customer Center (Sprint/Nextel Retailer) PROJECT: REQUEST: This is a variance request from the Sign Ordinance No. 704-B requirements for maximum banner sign area and duration. The subject property is located at 2704 East Southlake Boulevard, Suite 102, which is in Gateway Plaza Phase II. The company name has changed and the applicant is requesting to display a banner with the new name covering the top portion of the existing sign until the new sign is available, not to exceed 6 months. The proposed banner will have a sign area greater than allowed and will be displayed longer than allowed under Sign Ordinance No. 704-B. Approval of a variance is required in order to receive a sign permit for this sign. This sign has been installed on the building. The property address is 2704 East Southlake Boulevard, Suite 102. STAFF COMMENTS: The sign criteria, site plan and application are attached to this report. The following variances are requested:  Ord. 704-B, Section 21.A.2 MAXIMUM AREA: The maximum permitted area for a banner is 0.50 square feet for every one foot of width of the lease space. The tenant’s lease space is 36 feet wide. The maximum area permitted is 18 square feet. The proposed sign is 36 square feet in area.  Ord. 704-B, Section 21.A.C DURATION: A banner may be displayed for a maximum of fifteen (15) days, twice per calendar year with a sixty (60) day separation between permits.
