Item 4A1The city of Southlake was established through the foresight of the city fathers by special election in September 1956; and, Whereas, from its humble beginnings comprising only 1.62 square miles and a population of less than 1,000 people, it has grown to an area of 22 square miles and a population in excess of 25,000 people while remaining a unique community with a hometown atmosphere; and, Whereas, Southlake has become a premier city in north Texas for both residents and businesses offering a high quality of life with many amenities and conveniences for the enjoyment and sustenance of its community members; and, Whereas, Southlake has flourished in its growth and development largely because of the ingenuity and creative efforts of both public officials and private citizens over the years; and Whereas, the providential hand of God has been and continues to be the source of the blessings we enjoy in Southlake. This golden anniversary year affords our community an opportunity to celebrate and commemorate the growth and success of Southlake; now, Therefore, I, Andy Wambsganss, Mayor of the City of Southlake, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim 2006 a year of celebration of Southlake’s Golden Anniversary of Incorporation And further urge the citizens of Southlake to participate in the celebratory festivities that will occur this year to showcase Southlake’s unique atmosphere and appeal; and encourage the citizens of Southlake to continue their cooperation and labors together for the advancement of our city over the next 50 years; and further urge us all to seek the favor of God to continue His blessings on our city.
