SUBJECT:
Jones Nature Center
Action Requested:
City Council approval of 2008 community services agreement
with the Bob Jones Nature Center.
Background
Information:
The proposed renewal agreement contains the same language
and provisions as last year’s agreement with a few minor
changes pertaining to the procedures for administering contract
instructors. The City will perform contracting services for joint
City and Nature Center programming with the Nature Center
reserving the right to also engage professional service
contractors for joint programs in compliance with all City
contracting practices. The Nature Center will continue to be
responsible for recruiting and programming the facility but given
the City’s existing ability to administer contractor payments this
arrangement will benefit both parties.
Bob Jones Nature Center (Nature Center) is a community-
based organization that was formed to provide educational and
recreational programs relating to nature. The Nature Center
has a Board of Directors, bylaws, and is a non-profit
organization.
The proposed Community Services Agreement is for a term of
one year, beginning January 1, 2008. Under the terms of the
proposed Agreement the Nature Center, to the extent
resources allow, is to provide:

coordinating such information with City for engaging in
professional services agreements.
Volunteers and intermittent staffing of a Nature Center.
Educational materials.
Guided trail programs and related nature activities.

businesses, community-based organizations and citizens to

Center. The remaining percentage is reserved to pay contract
instructors as needed.
