Southlake Public Library
Board Report – October 2007

–
The library has recorded a number of Podcasts that are available on the library portion of the city’s
website. We are in the process of developing a significant number of Podcasts soon to be including
The Southlake Historical Society’s oral history project that the library has been supporting for a
number of years. Podcasts from the Bob Jones Nature Center will also be included, and of course
content from the library as well – we currently have recorded a number of songs used in the library’s
popular children’s storytimes.
City Librarian and Deputy Director McGeath was named to the Texas Library Association Visioning
Task Force steering committee. He is one of a select few librarians chosen from throughout the state
to begin the process of looking at how libraries will need to change to be effective over the next 25
years. The Task Force had the first meeting in Southlake – they enjoyed the city and as a result
several of the future meetings will take place in Southlake. Mr. McGeath is also the incoming
President of the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (an affiliate of TML).
The drive up bookdrop will be placed in the next two to four weeks. The most consistent customer
concern is to have a drive up bookdrop so they would not have to get out of the car to drop off their
materials, since parking can be tough around the Town Hall Building. It will be positioned at the
south end of the west parking garage across the road from Robb and Stuckey’s rear or east entrance.
The library is continuing to display art from each of the Carroll School District campuses through
the remainder of the year. CISD received a grant for museum quality panels to display art in various
locations. Staff continues to be excited about the excellent works of art that have been exhibited thus
far.

have library cards which is about 70% or so of the population
Programming:

the period. The library was up 76% over the two year period. 92,000 people visited the library in the last
