The most exciting part of SPDC is to see the user groups take advantage of matching funds. Many years ago, it just seemed like baseball was the only one using this resource. During this current term, we have seen Liberty Gardens, Mounted Patrol, Girls Softball come forward for these funds and the funds are being totally consumed. It is my desire to see the final sale of the land that we just gave approval for. It will totally complete the land acquisition of Bob Jones Park. This is very exciting as I would have never believed that to have happened eight years ago. I have had this idea of having Southlake being a bluebonnet city. Crystal Shaffer and I are setting up a meeting with some other members of KSB and the Nature Center to see if we can't get this going. Wouldn't it be great if in the spring, we have bluebonnets all along the highways and in our parks (private and public)? This would bring people into Southlake to take pictures, eat at our restaurants and shop Town Square. If we could time this with Art in the Square, that would be even better. My experience on SPDC allows me to know all the players and where to go and how to get things done. During my last term, there was not a lot of money to do much. I was fortunate to be a part of this board in eliminating some of the debt due to consolidation of bonds and renewing bonds at better interest rates. The area of parks has always been an interest of mine since we have moved into the community 10 years ago. When we lived in Atlanta, I was able to get a 2 mile trail put through on a main thoroughfare. When we first moved here through the help of Ronnie Kendal, I was able to convince SPDC that Continental needed a trail from Whites Chapel to Davis Blvd. (My brochure, selling point is probably still in the files). After that, I became more actively involved by applying for the committee of the Parks Board. One goal that I believe is very important is to look at the big picture for all user groups and attain a balance so that everyone in the community can be served. From the time we moved here in 1995 the community has grown from 14,000 to 25,000. We have added Annie Smith Park, Koality Park and Noble Oaks to our system.. We have expanded Bob Jones Park and it meets active user groups such as soccer and softball along with the more passive horse trail rider groups. I believe the duties of this position are to work with the Parks Board and the City Staff to allocate the funds judicially to meet the needs of all the Citizens of Southlake. We seem to be leveling off in our growth; I would love to see some money spent on signs for our city parks similar to the city of Grapevine. A lot of our citizens are not familiar with all of our city parks. Because of my experience you do not have to go through the learning curve with a new board member., I have a tremendous amount of knowledge that most people cannot pick up immediately because I have served on the Parks Board and on SPDC. I know all of the parks and what they have in them and what they need. My experience will help evaluate where best to allocate the money. My knowledge base includes what has been on the Master Plan for the past 10 years, although it changes slightly with each board, the goals have been similar throughout these years. I am familiar with the construction terms in building these parks. I know the questions to ask to make sure that we are doing what is in the best interest of the city. The city staff has known me for many years and they know that I am very loyal and dedicated to doing what is right for our city. I am very active in the community and I deal with all age groups, this gives me access to what people are saying they are wanting and or need in this community. Qualifications and experience that would assist you in serving in this position: My youngest child is very active in the recreation programs in Southlake I am on the park grounds weekly, I see the needs of our park grounds and I know the staff that works the various venues. People in various user groups know that I have been actively involved in this area and talk to me about what they would like to see happen with our various parks and trails. I have probably been the cities biggest trail advocate and worked with staff make sure that we continue to build our trails and have them on the master plan. I know the staff and they know me and they know that my loyalty lies in making our city one of the greatest cities in the U.S.A. My past job before becoming a full time mom was running my own business. In my past career, I had to deal with balance sheets and income statements. Do you understand and agree that your regular attendance and active support are required as an appointee and that noncompliance could result in removal from the board. Yes, this job is being taken very seriously and I have attended all meetings. I love this j Additional information or comments; I have been a good volunteer steward to the City of Southlake and love being involved. Once my children are older and do not need me at home as much I hope to do more. I hope that you will see me as a valuable asset to this community and will consider reappointing me to SPDC.
