–
The Southlake Public Library Summer Reading Club will be coming to a close on August 18th. June
and July have been the busiest months we have ever had at the Southlake Public Library, with regard
to check outs, programming and traffic numbers. We had 27,240 checkouts – our highest number
yet. 11,886 customers walked through our door, and 5,317 attended programs including the Summer
Reading Clubs.
The library also added an Adult Summer Reading club and have signed up close to 175 participating
adults this year as well. FOSL was helpful in rounding up all the prizes to be awarded – they also
helped tremendously with the youth program as well.
Deputy Director McGeath was named to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Library
Systems Act Advisory Board which is required by state legislation to advise with regard to the
Library Systems Act. There are 5 members of the group from throughout the state, including three
public and two academic librarians.
The drive up bookdrop has been purchased with funds raised by FOSL. FOSL is holding a Raffle on
August 16 with tickets going for $5.00. The funds raised will offset the outlay of funds so we could
purchase the bookdrop. It will be positioned at the south end of the west parking garage across the
road from Robb and Stuckey’s rear or east entrance.
The library is continuing to display art from each of the Carroll School District campuses through
the end of the summer. CISD received a grant for museum quality panels to display art in various
locations. Staff continues to be excited about the excellent works of art that have been exhibited thus
far.
