Sign Variance Application
Demonstration
Please demonstrate that the following conditions are applicable to the requested sign variance:
1. That a literal enforcement of the sign regulation will create an unnecessary hardship or
practical difficulty on the applicant.
A sign was constructed in accordance with current regulations and installed on the
storefront. Sign (as constructed) is markedly smaller than signs on adjacent storefronts,
and is difficult to read.
The letter “C” in the “Curves” logo is somewhat taller than the rest of the letters. In
order for the “C” to conform to the 14” maximum letter height, the remaining letters are
quite small.
2. That the situation causing the unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty is unique to
the affected property and is not self imposed.
Adjacent storefronts have obtained variances for signage with larger letters.
3. That the variance will not injure and will be wholly compatible with the use and permitted
development of adjacent properties.
A variance will actually allow for a sign that better conforms to the other signs in Pavilion
Plaza.
4. That the variance will be in harmony with the spirit and purpose of the sign ordinance.
The “Curves” logo will be in harmony with the spirit and purpose of the sign ordinance.
