Southlake Public Library
Board Report – March 2007
Services
–
The Library Virtual Branches have been a real success. Staff drops off the materials requested at the
Sabre loading dock, and they distribute directly to our customer’s desks. The Sabre branch will
probably circulate about 10 to 15% of our total checkouts. The Senior Center has had a slower start,
but they also have a lot less people then Sabre. We hear nothing but positive comments about the
service from Sabre employees.
Following the completion of most of the exterior work on the new Robb and Stuckey store in Town
Square the library will be placing a bookdrop by the West parking garage in order to allow citizens
to drop of their materials from the convenience of their very own automobiles, resolving one of our
top complaints related to accessibility of the current bookdrops.
City Librarian, and Deputy Director of Community Services, Kerry McGeath was nominated for the
Southlake Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year award for 2006.
The library will be displaying art from each of the Carroll School District campuses by the middle of
March. CISD received a grant for museum quality panels to display art in various locations. The
library will be the first site for what will become a rotating exhibit throughout Southlake. Staff is
very excited about being the initial venue.
The library will be working with the Bob Jones Nature Center (BJNC) as the location for the Nature
Center Photo contest reception and awards program this spring. Staff is also working closely with
BJNC to develop a series of children’s programs through the spring and summer to promote the
upcoming opening of the Nature Center.
Library staff have also been coordinating our efforts and strengthening our relationship with the
school librarians at each of the Carroll campuses. Librarian Jesse Ephraim recently concluded a
training session for CISD librarians on utilizing Internet and electronic resources to enable them to
better deal with students needs. City library and school district work hand in hand to provide the best
all around educational opportunities for our youth.
