Status of the Urban Design Study/Median Plan
SUBJECT:
Since December 2006, city staff has been working with the Urban Design work group and the
consultants on a draft median plan for F.M. 1709 and Davis Boulevard. In an effort to gather
public input, the city held a City-wide SPIN meeting on the proposed median locations on
Tuesday, January 30, 2007. Approximately 70 persons were in attendance and the city has
received several comments on the proposed median openings.
Based on the input from this SPIN public meeting, the consultants have revised the median plan
and will present City Council with an update at the February 20, 2007 meeting. The purpose of
the discussion will be two-fold: (1) to provide staff and consultants feedback on the revised
median plan, and (2) make a recommendation on the reducing the lane width from 12’ to 11’ for
the segment of F.M. 1709 between Village Center Drive and Carroll Avenue. The approximate
cost of such a lane width reduction is $400,000.
