Item 3A1The Southlake Carroll Dragon Football Team is the epitome of a
team with a winning spirit and a tradition of championships that
resulted from a focus on teamwork and the mastery of the game of
football; and,
Whereas,
the Carroll Dragons successfully defended their 5A State Championship
title against Austin Westlake at the Alamodome in San Antonio on December 23,
2006, and won the game with a score of 43-29, making it their fourth championship in
five years and third consecutive State title; and,
Whereas,
the Dragons entered the 2006 Class 5A Division I state championship
game with a perfect 16-0 record under Head Coach Todd Dodge ; and,
Whereas,
the Dragon team had added incentive to capture the 5A Title due to the
departure of Coach Todd Dodge this season. Coach Dodge ended his seven-season
tenure as Dragons coach to become the head coach at the University of North Texas;
and,
Whereas,
the team claimed the top spot in USA TODAY’’s Super 25 final high
school football rankings and the top spot in MaxPreps’s top ten Texas high school
football rankings; now,
Therefore,
I, Mayor Andy Wambsganss, on behalf of the City Council, in recognition
of the team’s outstanding performance and dedication, do hereby proclaim December
23, 2006, as
Carroll Dragons Day
