The construction of the FM1709 Sidewalks links to the city’s strategy map relative to
the focus areas of Mobility, Infrastructure, and Performance Management and
Service Delivery. The specific corporate objectives that are met by this construction
project include: Providing travel convenience within city and region ; Providing high
quality customer service; and Investing to provide and maintain high quality public
assets.

The original contract amount for the design of the FM1709 sidewalks was $138,750.
Amendments 1, 2 were over $37K, and Amendment No. 3 brings the total for
amendments up to $86,410 which is above the City Manager’s signatory authority.
The total contract amount for the design of the sidewalks is $225,160.

Funding for the design and matching funds for the construction of the FM1709
sidewalks is authorized in the CIP. Construction will be funded with the $1.7M
matching grant awarded to the City for 2010 federal STEP. The matching grant is
for construction only, and the City will be solely responsible for the cost of the
engineering design. Matching funds for construction of the sidewalks is also
authorized in the CIP.

Amendment No. 1, for $30,080 was approved in Nov 2009 to repackage the plans
for phased bidding.

The project schedule is as follows. Construction plans shall be completed and
submitted to the TxDOT Area Office for review in the 4 th quarter of 2010 or the 1 st
quarter of 2011. Receipt of the Federal Letter of Authority for the STEP Grant is
required prior to submittal and/or review of the plans by TxDOT.
Construction may begin as early as the August 2011
