Item 3A4 Southlake Arts Council Board Report – September 2010 Status Report Public Arts Master Plan – The Arts Council recommended that City staff create an RFQ to hire an o organization to provide a comprehensive Arts Master Plan that will be integrated into the upcoming Southlake 2030 Plan. The Arts Master Plan will help the Arts Council identify current and long-term priorities for the development of public art and other culturally based programs and information. The project will begin after the first of the new fiscal year. Art for Roundabouts – A Call to Artists was placed in April for art proposals for four City roundabouts. o The Arts Council has accepted final concepts for each of the four locations. Staff is currently developing a process to allow citizen and council input utilizing a survey. More details on the process will be revealed later. The original art concepts were narrowed down by the Artists Selection Workgroup by reviewing the artists’ past works and resumes. The Arts Council received in-service instruction on how to effectively jury art, and came up with four concepts (and artists) that have been recommended to the City Council. If approved by City Council, it will allow negotiations to begin with the selected artists and to move forward with the implementation phase. Creation and installation of the art work may take approximately 6 to 9 months. Other late breaking Arts Council News –The Arts Council will be review several options regarding the o possibility of art being purchased by donations from the community to honor Brian Stebbins for the development and success of Southlake Town Square. Arts Survey on the City Website –Beginning September 6, a survey concerning public art will be o available on the City’s website. The survey will be available for a limited time and will be an opportunity for the Arts Council to capture information about the public’s view of art in the community.
