Item 4E4E - 1 M E M O R A N D U M September 29, 2010 TO: Shana Yelverton, City Manager FROM: Chris Tribble, Director of Community Services Approve SPDC Matching Funds request from Keep Southlake SUBJECT: Beautiful for Liberty Garden courtyard enhancements in the amount of $2,350 Action Requested : City Council approval of a SPDC Matching Funds request from Keep Southlake Beautiful in the amount of $2,350 for the construction of additional courtyard area in Liberty Garden. The total cost of the project is $4,700. Background Information : In October 2009, Parks Board recommended approval and SPDC and City Council approved a SPDC Matching Funds request from Keep Southlake Beautiful in the amount of $8,000 ($16,000 total project cost) for the construction of landscape beds in the Liberty Garden Dorothy Wood Education Center at Bicentennial Park. Keep Southlake Beautiful has been working with staff on plans to expand the courtyard area to include additional construction of planter beds and landscaping of the existing courtyard area. The enlarged courtyard area on the west side of Liberty Garden will provide more area for group functions. The landscape plan includes excavation of existing material, raising the height of the existing wall, installing a planter wall around the existing tree, installing base material, sand, brick pavers and clean up. Financial Considerations : At the end of FY 2010, an unencumbered balance of $263,246.70 remained in the SPDC Matching Funds account. During the FY 2011 budget process, an additional $250,000 in SPDC Matching Funds was approved, resulting in an available balance of $513,246.70. If the current request for $2,350 from KSB is granted, an unencumbered balance of $510,896.70 would remain in the FY 2011 Matching Funds budget. 4E - 2 Shana Yelverton, City Manager Meeting Date – October 5, 2010 Page 2 of 6 Strategic Link : This item is linked to the City’s Strategy Map related to the focus area of Quality Development and Partnerships and Volunteerism and meets the corporate objectives to Provide Attractive and Unique Spaces for Enjoyment of Personal Interests and Actively Promote Opportunities for Partnerships and Volunteer Involvement.
