Programs –
o
The first dance was held at the Senior Center with music provided by DJ Scott Smith
o
CPR training was held with 17 participants earning their certificates
o
Hosted a lecture on Identity Theft that was well attended by 38 seniors
o
18 seniors attended “America The Beautiful” musical in Grapevine followed by dinner at
o
the Olive Garden Restaurant
Monthly showing of new Driver’s Safety Exercise Video, focusing on reaction time,
o
peripheral vision, hand-eye coordination and flexibility
Second Annual Sock Hop was held at Town Hall on August 7 with music provided by
o
Freddy and the Falcons. We had 70 participants attend this event.
A large number of seniors took advantage of the free cataract and vision exams that were
o
provided by Carter Eye Care on August 10
R.O.M.E.O.’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out) are, once again, meeting monthly
o
Bring Your Grandchildren to Lunch on Tuesday, August 17 proved to be a very popular
o
event with lots of bragging by the grandparents
Trip to the Bodies Exhibit in Dallas and lunch at the Spaghetti Factory on Friday, August
o
13
Jam Session featuring Sonny Cate and the Texas Jammers was held on the evening of
o
September 2 with over 60 people in attendance. This will now be a monthly event,
occurring on the first Thursday of the month.
Metroport Meals on Wheels- Comp meal numbers continue to increase.

CARS is always seeking more drivers and with the increased numbers, they are seeking
o
volunteers.
Facility Improvements – The following items have been added to the facility:
o
Added 30 new folding chairs to replace worn chairs
o
Added 10 new folding card tables to replace old tables
o
New chair and table carts and closet shelves were built by CS Department
o
Addition of the Longhorn and 2 calf statues is very appreciated by the seniors
o
Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. is pursuing possible grant money to apply
Non-Profit 501c3 –
o
towards the purchase of a handicap accessible bus for Southlake Senior and City needs.
Multipurpose Facility Input from Senior Advisory Commission – It should be noted that at the
o
September 14, 2010 Senior Advisory Commission meeting the idea of keeping the Senior
Activity Center at its current physical location and continuing improvements verses moving to a
new location and becoming a part of a multipurpose facility was verbally discussed and
supported by the Senior Advisory Commission.
