Current Regulations (Attached Signs)
Logos are currently allowed to be 125% of the maximum allowed letter height
Bratton Photography Example:
Business is permitted 16 inch letters
Sign has 9 inch letters
Business is still permitted a 20 inch logo
Revise Logo Regulations?
Options:
Keep current regulation
Reduce maximum logo height to maximum allowed letter height
Prohibit logos
Recent Logo Trends
Reviewed last 100 sign permits issued for permanent attached signs
40 signs (40%) had logos
30 signs (75%) had larger logos than letters
Logos varied from 13% of letter height to 275% of letter height
On average, logos were 151% of letter height

Of the 40 signs that had logos:
9 signs were approved by variance
An additional 10 signs were subject to a Conditional Sign Permit or Master Sign Plan
Of the remaining 21 signs, 12 would have required a variance if logo size was limited to 100% of allowable letter height
