Item 4FM E M O R A N D U M May 13, 2008 To: Shana Yelverton, City Manager From: Chris Tribble, Interim Director of Community Services Subject: Approve park naming of Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve Action Requested: City Council review and approval to rename the nature center the Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve. Background Information: The new name of the nature center with the designation as a “preserve” provides a better depiction of the role of the center in the community. The mission of the Bob Jones Nature Center is to:  provide places of quiet recreation that promotes respect for all forms of life,  foster learning experiences about the North Texas natural environment,  engender an enduring sense of community and its natural history, and  preserve our natural resources Effective February 18, 1996, the City adopted a procedure for naming or renaming park facilities. The Naming and Renaming of Park Facilities Procedures establishes the parameters for naming of City park facilities. A copy is attached to this memo for your review. The new name, Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve, is in line with the City’s procedure. If approved, the name will be incorporated into future revisions of the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan as well as the Southlake 2025 Plan. Financial Considerations: Not applicable.
