Item 4G Department of Planning & Development Services S T A F F R E P O R T June 11, 2008 SP 08-122 CASE NO: Sign Variance for Adams Engineering PROJECT: REQUEST: Artografx, on behalf of Adams Engineering, is requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704-C requirements for maximum logo height for attached signs. Adams Engineering is located at 910 South Kimball Avenue in the Champion Crossing development. At the June 3, 2008 City Council meeting, the applicant requested a logo height of 36 inches and a maximum letter height of 21 inches for two signs: one on the south elevation and one on the east elevation of the building. Under Sign Ordinance No. 704-C, the applicant is allowed a maximum logo height of 17.5 inches and a maximum letter height of 14 inches on the south elevation. For the east elevation, the applicant is allowed a maximum logo height of 20 inches and a maximum letter height of 16 inches. The variance to maximum letter height only applies to two letters on the proposed signs: the “A” and “d” in “Adams Engineering”. All other letters on the signs comply with the maximum letter height requirements. At the June 3, 2008 meeting, City Council requested that the applicant make the following revisions:  Change the maximum letter height from 21 inches to 16 inches, and  Reduce the size of the logo to fit within the upper limit of the letter “A” and the lower limit of the letter “E”. The revised sign drawings are included in Attachment D. The revised variance request is as follows: Sign Regulation Current Regulation Proposed Sign Maximum logo height 17.5 inches (south elevation) 36 inches 20 inches (east elevation) 30 inches Maximum letter height 14 inches (south elevation) 21 inches 16 inches (east elevation) (for the letters “A” and “d” only) Adams Engineering occupies the entire 13,750 square foot building and therefore there will be no other attached signs on the building.
