Item 4F Department of Planning & Development Services S T A F F R E P O R T June 11, 2008 SP 08-133 CASE NO: Sign Variance for Southlake Church PROJECT: REQUEST: Southlake Church is requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704-C requirement for minimum setback for a monument sign. Southlake Church is located at the southwest corner of West Southlake Boulevard and Brock Drive and the address is 2501 West Southlake Boulevard. Currently, the church has a pole sign that was installed in 1993 and is approximately 18 feet tall. The church is proposing to remove the pole sign and construct a 6 foot 6 inch tall monument sign. For visibility purposes, the church is requesting to place the sign approximately 2 feet from the property line and an existing retaining wall which extends ±10 feet above West Southlake Boulevard. Under Sign Ordinance No. 704-C, monument signs along Southlake Boulevard are required to have a minimum setback of 12 feet from the property line. If the sign were placed the required 12 feet from the property line, the sign would encroach on the parking lot. The proposed monument sign complies with all other regulations for monument signs.
