Item 3CINSIDE THIS ISSUE: Southlake 2030 Plan 1 SYAC Meets with the Mayor 2 Feasibility Study 2 The 2009‐2010 Southlake Youth Action Commission (SYAC) year has come to a close. It has been an eventful year for SYAC’s members with community service projects, meetings and working with local organizations. Some of the activities SYAC participated in this year were:  Southlake 2030 Plan  Meeting with the Mayor  Participated in Feasibility Study for new Multipurpose Facility  DPS Headquarters Tour  Meeting with SPARK Chairman Laura Hill  PKD Walk  Community Services—Home for the Holidays Event  Christmas Carols at Watermere at Southlake  Texas Municipal League Youth Summit Another year comes to a close! 2009-2010 SYAC Report SYAC met with the 2030 Team throughout the year to give their input on the future of Southlake. The meetings included learning about the 2030 plan and what it entails and giving their feedback and opinions about what they want to see in Southlake. There was clear consensus by SYAC that Southlake’s best features are the shopping, safety and architectural beauty. Southlake 2030 Plan S.Y.A.C. Meets with the Mayor The Mayor of Southlake came to speak to SYAC at the December 2nd meeting. Mayor Terrell spoke about his involvement in city government and answered questions about traffic issues in Southlake, the city’s role with the school district and also the need for a cultural/multipurpose center in Southlake. The mayor also addressed the teen issue in Town Square and that a center would provide an outlet for pre‐teens teenagers rather than them flooding Town Square. SYAC at the TML Youth Summit S.Y.A.C. mentioned that they would like a relaxing place to enjoy a picnic, hear some music, study or read, and just hang out with friends. Feasibility Study for Multipurpose Facility In March, S.Y.A.C. members attended a Multipurpose Facility Feasibility Study meeting at Town Hall. The students provided feedback and input on a wide variety of topics involving at new multipurpose center in Southlake. The comments made and the suggestions given by the group provided a valuable “voice of the youth” that will assist in this major project as it moves forward.
