Summer Reading Club f on May 22 and ends August
th
14. We will have plenty of performers for the kids throughout the summer. Last year we had over
3,000 children participate in the program, but many more attended our programs. We also have a
Summer Reading Club for adults and teens, and had approximately 300 participate in that program last
year. The Library is gearing up for a very busy summer.
Interlibrary Loan Do you know that the Southlake Public Library can get almost any book that has
been printed and is being held in a library? As with any library we have limited resources which mean
we buy everything that is available. We participate in a consortium and can get access to just about
anything that has been printed. Last year we borrowed close to 800 items that were not in our collection
to satisfy a customers needs. Keep us in mind if there is ever anything you need,
Working with CISD The library is working with the CISD school librarians on a possible plan for the
public library to check out very popular titles for the school libraries during the summer when they are
closed and we are busiest. We would then make the titles available to our customers for checkout. This
would allow us to expand our resources when we need them
them. More details later as we work through this process. What an excellent collaboration to make
resources available to the community
Case Study We worked closely with the City Managers office and particularly Alison Ortowski and
Pilar Schank to develop a case study for the Transforming Local Government Conference. Southlake
is the first of its kind nationally. The case study was one of 17
chosen to be presented at the Transforming Local Government conference in Las Vegas in June. It is
quite an honor that the library and city be recognized on a national level.
Visitor Stats Year to Date:
Checkouts:
The Library has seen an 8% increase in checkouts thus far this year with 168,585 items
checking out vs. 156,000 last year. We had seen a 12% increase last year, the year ended with over
300,000 items checked out so we are continuing to see a nice increase. We are close to reaching
maximum limits on our traffic levels due to space limitations and parking despite those limitations
traffic for the year is up with a bit over 82,000 customers visiting the library this last year.
Programming:
Storytimes and youth programming attendance increased this year with 12,132
attending for this fiscal year. This is a 6% increase over a very strong year last year -
quite an accomplishment given our limited space. We have had a 50% increase in volunteer hours
with a bit over 2,086 volunteer hours thus far this fiscal year.
