PROJECT: Sign Variance for Fat Daddy’s Burger House
EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY:
Fat Daddy’s Burger House is requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance 704, as
amended, to allow the placement of an additional attached sign (logo) which will
exceed set area regulations. The location is 410 W. Southlake Boulevard, Suite
160.
REQUEST DETAILS:
This location falls under a conditional sign permit SP06-362, as amended, for
Bicentennial Retail Plaza which allowed for maximum letter height of 24 inches on
the front elevation attached signs and 18 inches on the rear elevation attached
signs; and keeping some uniformity of fonts and colors. However, the conditional
sign permit does not address allowed area for an attached sign or maximum logo
height so the regulations default back to Sign Ordinance 704-D. The applicant is
requesting variances to maximum area for attached signs facing Southlake
Boulevard and maximum logo height permitted. Currently, the existing sign area
measures 37.3 square feet; a maximum of 40 feet is allowed by ordinance. The
proposed logo sign measures 11 square feet bringing the proposed total area
square footage to 48.3. The proposed logo height is 33 inches (138% of max letter
height); a maximum height of 30 inches (125% of max letter height) is allowed by
ordinance. The specific variance is as follows:

September 2006 – sign variance approved for Bicentennial Plaza
(SP06-362) which included conditional regulations for maximum letter
height; number of signs; and minimum monument setback. City Council
granted the three requested variances but noted that other than the
variance on the letter heights, the attached signage would meet all
other regulations of the existing sign ordinance and requiring the
monument signs be brought back to City Council for separate approval.
April 2008 – development monument signs approved by Council
March 2009 – permanent attached sign permitted for Fat Daddy’s
