Item 4GM E M O R A N D U M July 9, 2008 To: Shana Yelverton, City Manager From: Chris Tribble, Interim Director of Community Services Subject: Award of bid to Horizon Distributors for the purchase of the Maxicom Irrigation Management System in the amount of $63,409 Action Requested: Award of bid to Horizon Distributors for the purchase of the Maxicom Irrigation Management System in the amount of $63,409 Background Information: Included within the approved FY 2008 Parks Operating Budget is funding in the amount of $65,000 for the Phase 1 (of 3) purchase of the Maxicom Irrigation Management System. The Maxicom system manages, monitors, and controls all irrigation systems from one central location; automatically adjusts to current weather conditions; allows for efficient and precise programming for specific water needs; verifies system operations and alerts staff to malfunctions; accurately monitors usage (total gallons used and estimated costs); and reduces labor, travel time and contract expenses. In addition, it has the ability to manage and control non-irrigation components such as athletic field lights, fountains, pumps, etc. The equipment is compatible with all of the irrigation controllers currently in operation within the parks system and at municipal facilities, which results in a tremendous savings for the City. The Maxicom system will ultimately automate the entire City owned irrigation systems, and bring our systems in compliance with the current and future monitoring requirements mandated by State law. The Phase 1 implementation will include both Bob Jones and Bicentennial Parks. Ultimately, Phases 2 and 3 will allow for the automation of the entire City owned and operated irrigation systems. Maxicom is manufactured by RainBird, and sold by Horizon Distributors, the sole source provider out of Phoenix, AZ.
