Item 6C - Parade DetailThe Independence Weekend Parade will take place on Thursday, September
11' 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in Town Square starting at the NW parking lot by
Barnes and Noble, continuing through the Square, passing in front of the
Gazebo, and concluding in the SW parking lot behind Corner Bakery.
Participants and floats can begin to arrive at the staging area at 4:15 and
MUST be in their assigned spots by 5:30 PM. Trucks, cars, and flatbed trailers
no longer than 16ft in length are acceptable for CISD - sponsored organizations
as well as walking.
• A faculty sponsor must be responsible for approving and overseeing the
design, construction, and safety of each float. Any parents who
supervise this process must maintain contact with the faculty sponsor.
• All float entries must be no larger than a standard flat bed trailer (16').
Remember, the float must not be wider than one lane of traffic and there
will be 3 VERY SHARP turns in the parade route.
• Each organization is responsible for using its own funds or soliciting
donations for parade materials and vehicles.
• All students/participants riding on the float or walking must have a
si ned waiver on file with the organization sponsor. Waivers MUST be
available for the safety check on Parade Day.
• A safety inspection will take place when the parade entries are lined up
at 5:30 pm. Any entry deemed unsafe at that point will not be allowed to
participate. The sponsors must have appropriate waivers.
• All float entries must have an adult licensed driver AND an adult/parent
supervisor inside the vehicle as well as an adult/parent supervisor either
on the float or walking beside it, supervising the students.
• Please ask your drivers to drive very SLOWLY and CAREFULLY.
• Please discuss appropriate behavior and safety with your students. We
don't want the actions of a few to spoil future opportunities to have a
parade.
• All vehicles should have at least one passenger in the front with the
driver to help watch.
• Each float and flatbed truck must have AT LEAST 2 people walking
around the sides of the vehicle to ensure the safety of everyone
involved.
• No items may be thrown or distributed during the parade.
• No sabotage of floats or parade entries will be tolerated at any time.
• Floats must be removed from Town Square and properly dismantled by
10:00pm on the night of the parade.
