The event, which will be held in the city of Southlake, Texas, will include veterans' art exhibits, school assemblies with static displays of Apache and Blackhawk helicopters, a pre -game presentation for veterans at the Friday night football game, a bike rally for veterans and the public -at- large, and a concert in Dragon Stadium featuring Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band. The anticipated order of events is as follows: September 11 ih: Veterans' art exhibits in the two middle schools and the two Carroll high schools—these exhibits display pictures taken by the vets themselves of the many activities that occur every day in the battle zones of Iraq and Afghanistan in the War On Terror. September 12 1 h: Veterans' art exhibits in the Central Market grocery store area. September 12 1 h: School assemblies at Carroll and Dawson ,Middle Schools and the two Carroll high schools... These assemblies will be attended by a cadre of veterans, both wounded and able - bodied, who will address the student bodies with thought - provoking stories, observations, and personal experiences that will "tell it like it is" in a combat environment that they were part of. The assemblies will also feature veterans in their 1BOT wheelchairs who will give the students a closeup look at the realities of serving their country in the military forces. Static displays of Apache and Blackhawk helicopters are also planned for the schools to give students a look at the latest in military equipment and the men and women who operate them. September 12th: A pre -game "Honor Assembly" at Dragon stadium for any veterans who might be attending the game ...This is a time for all veterans of the U.S. military forces to join together on the field in a patriotic salute to all who have served their country so faithfully. September 13th: A bicycle rally featuring, and honoring, the wounded veterans who will ride their hand -crank bikes over a variety of routes, along with many other non - military participants. The course will include pre -set routes of 10, 25, 40, and 62 miles, to accommodate riders of varying skill levels. September 13th: The highlight of the SIW will be an outdoor concert in Dragon Stadium featuring Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band. Mr. Sinise is a well -known TV (CSI: NY) and movie (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13) actor who is part of a 14 -piece band that plays music from several decades past, as well as current hits. He has been an active and ardent supporter of the military community, particularly those who have been wounded or whose families have been affected by the ravages of the War Can Terror. The Southlake Independence Weekend Planning Committee and the Independence Fund are sponsoring a car raffle to benefit our Military Heroes who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. The Southlake Independence Weekend will be a 3 -day running Sept. 11th, 12th and ending Saturday Sept. 13th with entertainment by Gary Sinise and the LT Dan Band. You may also purchase a ticket by visiting one of our local businesses listed on the sponsors page of the website. The drawing will take place at Dragon Stadium in Southlake on Saturday, September 13th, 2008 at the Gary Sinise and LTDB Concert. Pre - show begins at 6:30pm. All proceeds will benefit the Independence Fund, a 501(c)3 non- profit supporting the severely injured from the Global War on Terror. RAFFLE RULES Must be 18 or older to enter. Number of tickets to he sold will not exceed 3000. A minimum of 400 tickets must be sold in order to hold the raffle. If less than 400 tickets are sold, the purchaser will be refunded the purchase price of the raffle ticket. It the minimum of 400 tickets are sold and the raffle is conducted, Raffle tickets are non - refundable. The winning ticket will be drawn at Dragon Stadium in Southlake on Sat., September 13th 2008. Winner need not he present to win. Taxes, tags and title are the responsibility of the winner. Color options based on availability. Additional vehicle options are available to winner at an extra charge. Winner is subject to U.S. withholding tax prior to delivery of prize. Winner must take delivery of vehicle by Sep- tember 30th 2008. Prize is not convertible to cash, nor credit be given toward another SAAB model. In the event winner elects not to accept or claim the prize, a second drawing will be held. In accordance with IRS regulations, the cost of a raffle ticket is NOT tax - deductible.
