does not change.
Texas Petition Strategies, Inc., who has indicated their clients are HEB Central
Market and Kroger, submitted a petition for a local option election to legalize
the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only. The sale of beer in
Southlake, originally authorized in 1977, is limited to 4% alcohol content or
less. There have been no changes to the status of beer sales since the original
election. The petition does not indicate changes to wine sales, or to
boundaries for the sale of alcohol in Southlake.
The petitioners wish to expand the existing authority to allow for the sale of
higher alcohol content in beers, ales and malt liquors (specifically specialty
beers).
According to State law, the required number of signatures needed on the
petition is equal to 35% of the Southlake voters who voted in the last
gubernatorial election which was held in November 2006. There were 6,971
voters in that election of which 35% is 2,439. Texas Petition Strategies, Inc.
submitted a petition containing 2,903 entries of which Tarrant County Elections
Administration has verified and accepted 2,584 signatures.
Having met petition requirements, State law requires City Council to call a
local option election on the next uniform election date which is November 4,
2008.
