Item 4G AudioHonorable Mayor and City Council Members: Item 4G on the consent agenda is for the approval of lighting upgrades for the East Parking Garage with Facility Solutions Group in the amount of $86,196.75. 1 This agenda item supports the city’s strategy map relative to the corporate objectives of: •Achieving the highest standards of safety and security; •Collaborating with select partners to implement service solutions; and •Investing to provide and maintain high quality public assets. 2 First, I would like to briefly provide some background information on this project. •In 2009, a lighting economic analysis was performed on both parking garages in Town Square. •The west parking garage lighting was upgraded in December 2009 and cost approximately $107k. •$50,000 of this project’s cost was paid by a grant from Clear Results. •However, due to budget constraints, no funding was available for upgrading the lighting in the smaller East Parking Garage. 3 •The East Parking Garage currently has a total of 274 light fixtures. •The proposed lighting upgrades include: •Upgrading the 214 metal halide lamps to induction lighting; and •Upgrading 60 existing fluorescent lamps with more efficient GE Ultramax 28 watt lamps and ballasts. 4 The results of the Lighting Economic Analysis estimate: 1.A potential savings in electricity of 164,214 kilowatt hours per year. 2.Or a savings of approximately $16,011 for the first year. In addition, the analysis estimates that the City will realize a maintenance cost avoidance for the first two years. Including 2% of inflation over the course of 5 years, the analysis estimates the dollar savings to the City as follows: •$22,476 for the first year; •$22,925 for the second year; •And $16k-17,000 thereafter. 5 To fund this project, City Council passed Resolution No. 09-070 authorizing staff to apply for an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. Staff submitted a completed application for a grant by the January 15 th deadline to upgrade the lighting in the east parking garage. 6 While the City has not yet received the award of the grant, the City has received the State Energy Conservations Office’s final allocation notice in the amount of $86,365. 7 8 Staff recommends that City Council approve the lighting upgrade for the East Parking Garage with Facility Solutions Group in the amount of $86,196.75. 9 Thank you for your attention.
