Price, P.E., Public Works Director Subject: Resolution No. 08 -058, Emphasizing the importance of the FM 1938 project and supporting the Texas Department of Transportation Action Requested: Resolution No. 08 -058, Emphasizing the importance of the FM 1938 project and supporting the Texas Department of Transportation. Background Information: FM 1938 is a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) project to construct a four lane and six lane divided urban arterial through the Cities of Southlake, Keller, and Westlake. The route of the roadway will follow Randol Mill Road through Southlake and Keller connecting to Precinct Line Road in Westlake through to State Highway 114. Phase of the project will be from the Randol Mill bend to SH 114 through Westlake. Phase I e_ from FM 1709_ to the Randol Mill_ bend_ in wp� 11 This project has been in the planning stage from a number of years. TxDOT has set the Public Hearing for November 6, 2008 at 6:30 pm at the Cross Timbers Community Church at 2525 Florence Road just west of Randol Mill Road. Resolution 08 -058 will demonstrate the support of the City of Southlake for this much needed project. TxDOT anticipates the bid letting for Phase I will be in the Spring of 2009. WHEREAS, the FM 1938 (Precinct Line Rd) project from SH 114 south to FM 1709 has been in the planning stages for a number of years; and, WHEREAS, this FM 1938 improvement project will greatly enhance transportation mobility for a significant and highly populated portion of the DFW metroplex; and, WHEREAS, the portion of area whose access and mobility is demonstrably improved as well as enhanced by the FM 1938 project includes areas of significant population growth and economic development activity that include major centers of employment; and, WHEREAS, extensive planning, cooperation, and coordination has been conducted by multiple local government jurisdictions to advance the FM 1938 project by providing for engineering, planning, and right -of -way for FM 1938; and WHEREAS, now that the next step in the process to move the FM 1938 to construction is for the Texas Department of Transportation to hold a public hearing to receive public input regarding the said FM 1938 project as proposed. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE: SECTION 1 : That the City of Southlake takes the occasion of this meeting of its City Council to affirm and emphasize its strong commitment, support, and recognition of the vital importance of the FM 1938 project to the improvement of the quality of life and mobility of this area and of this region and further, authorizes its Mayor or his designate to present this resolution to a public hearing held by the TxDOT to publicly indicate this strong support for the FM 1938 project as proposed.
