Item 6C (3)Good evening Mayor and members of Council. This evening we will review for you
the proposed Bicentennial Park Schematic Design and seek City Council adoption.
The Bicentennial Park Schematic Design is a culmination of many months of work
by the consulting firm of Schrickel, Rollins, and Associates in conjunction with the
Bicentennial Work Group and City staff. The schematic design is intended to serve
as the frame work to help guide the City’s decisions as it relates to where we take
this park in the future.

As you are aware, Bicentennial Park consists of approximately 85 acres with the
western one-third of the park undeveloped. Many of the existing park elements
were pieced together over years of development thus leading to the less than ideal
design we have today.

The features outlined in red depict those areas which would remain and be
incorporated within the proposed schematic design. They include the Liberty
Garden, tennis center, in-line hockey and basketball courts, baseball fields, and
central parking area, to name a few.
5
The features in color represent new proposed improvements intended to improve
the aesthetics of the park, enhance pedestrian and vehicular mobility, create a more
unified flow and theme within the park, and most importantly provide new and
unique recreational opportunities for our citizens.
