PROJECT: Variance for Branch Banking & Trust, Co.
REQUEST:
Brad Pilkington, with Reynolds Signs, on behalf of Branch Banking & Trust Co., is
requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704-D regulations for Maximum
Duration Permitted for Temporary Banner Signs. Branch Banking & Trust Co. (BB&T)
has recently purchased the vacant building located at 270 N. Kimball Avenue,
previously occupied by Colonial Bank. BB&T is now open and operating. Specifically,
the applicant is requesting to install a wall banner over the existing Colonial Bank sign
for a period of approximately six months. Under the Sign Ordinance No. 704-D, the
maximum duration for a banner is 15 days, twice per calendar year with a 60 day
separation between permits.

HISTORY:
There is no history for BB&T in Southlake. This location was previously
occupied by Colonial Bank which had sign permits issued and approved in
January of 2005. The Colonial Bank attached sign remains in place with the
BB&T banner currently covering it. The monument sign does not contain any
signage at this time.

COUNCIL ACTION:
November 17, 2009; Approved (7-0) requiring the applicant to remove the
Colonial Bank sign within one week and reduce banner size to allow BB&T as
shown tonight with 18 inch letters for a period of three (3) months.
