Approve artist concept of the mural for the new DPS Headquarters
Item 4B
The DPS public art project is made possible from Crime Control and Prevention Board funding
1% of the funding for the new DPS facility can be utilized to purchase public art for the project
The amount for this portion of the project is $15,000
Concept will be available for viewing at the City Council meeting
The portion of the project has 1 basic component:
Mural for the main entry lobby of the new DPS Headquarters
Crime Control and Prevention District Board approved the final concept of a mural by artist Janice Hart Melito, as did the Southlake Arts Council at their respective October meetings
Agreement could not be reached on the project scope with Liz Bonham who’s concept was chosen in the initial Call to Artists.
A second Call to Artists was presented this past summer and after utilizing the same process to chose the concept and artist both Boards (Crime Control and Arts Council) chose to recommend
the concept presented by Janice Hart Melito for City Council approval
