Item 3C Southlake Arts Council Board Report – October 2009 Status Report Council Membership – The Arts Council has achieved a full roster, with seven regular members and all o three alternate members named and appointed by city council. Newly appointed members have helped to provide a richly diversified experience and energy to the Arts Council. Public Arts Master Plan – At its September 2009 regular meeting, the Arts Council unanimously o Toward a Public Arts Master Plan for the City Of Southlake, Texas: A First Iteration approved Document. This document is a planning and activity guideline which presents options for progress through an iterative design, assuring continual feedback and improvement from city staff and council. Seven Goals, with requisite objectives and outcome measures, are presented in the document, which is currently being considered by city staff, and will be shared with City Council at an upcoming meeting. The principal recommendation of the document concerns hiring an arts planning consultant to help Southlake attain an arts master plan as soon as possible. Work Groups/Subcommittees – As a result of the Arts Council’s approval of the First Iteration o document, two standing subcommittees have been formed: The Artist and Art Work Selection Work Group – composed of three members, this group will help formulate preliminary recommendations for all arts projects undertaken by the city. This work group has met to design a community, city staff, and city council input and impact procedure which will make the Arts Council’s recommendations more representative of the opinions and desires of members of our community. The Master Plan Work Group – composed of three members, this subcommittee will continue to meet and work through issues pertaining to the public arts master plan, including focused work on the arts master planning consultancy. . Partnerships – The Arts Council continues to work toward a complete understanding of the implicit o partnerships formed between the city and Art in the Square (The Southlake Women’s Club), ArtsNet, and the Apex Arts League. The Arts council wants to focus special attention on helping form the most appropriate partnership with the Apex Arts League, specifically in relation to the ongoing work involving the possibility of a Multipurpose Facility that may include Performing Arts facilities.
