Item 9A Department of Planning & Development Services S T A F F R E P O R T September 30, 2009 CASE NO:SV09-017 PROJECT:Variance for Carpet One REQUEST: Signs of Any Kind, on behalf of Carpet One, is requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704-D regulations for letter height and location of sign. Carpet One is located at 154 Bank Street. Specifically, the applicant is requesting a maximum letter height of 48 inches on the façade facing Southlake Boulevard and 18 inches maximum letter height on the façade facing Bank Street; also the position of the sign facing Bank Street is proposed at the east corner of the façade. Under the Sign Ordinance No. 704-D, the maximum allowed letter height for buildings fronting regional boulevards which are 150 feet from the ROW is 23 inches; the maximum allowed letter height for buildings facing all other streets is 16 inches; each sign shall be located in the middle 75% of the single plane façade or centered on an articulated surface of the building façade. The applicant is proposing two signs one on the north elevation and one on the east elevation. The sign on the north elevation is proposed to be 48 inches in height; the sign on the east elevation is proposed to be 18 inches in height. The sign proposed for the east elevation is the existing sign that will be removed from the north elevation. The position of the sign on the east elevation is proposed to be located at the east end of the façade in order to gain maximum visibility. Also, please note that the existing awning signs for Supreme Golf will be removed.
