Approve SPDC Matching Funds request from the Bob Jones
SUBJECT:
Nature Center organization in the amount of $550 for the
purchase of benches for the patio
Action Requested: City Council approval of SPDC Matching Funds request from
the Bob Jones Nature Center Organization in the amount of
$550 ($1,100 total) for the purchase of benches for the patio.
Background
Information: Recall at the July 7, 2009 Council meeting, the council
approved of an identical request from the Bob Jones Nature
Center organization to match grant funds they received from
the Greater Southlake Women’s Society to purchase four
patio benches. Recently, the Bob Jones Nature Center
organization received another grant, from the Southlake
Newcomers Club, to purchase additional benches for the
Nature Center and Preserve patio area.
The new benches are made of 100% recycled plastic
beverage bottles that have been manufactured into
maintenance free ‘Poly Lumber.’ The product is non-toxic,
UV resistant and comes with a lifetime warranty. The
benches are currently listed at $275 apiece for a total of
$1,100 for four.
Financial
Considerations: SPDC Matching Funds in the amount of $200,000 are
approved in the Fiscal Year 2009 budget. To date, $6,100 in
matching funds has been approved and allocated as follows:
• $2,500 ($5,000 total) to Southlake Historical
Society to purchase furnishings for the log
cabin
• $550 ($1,100 total) to Bob Jones Nature
Center organization to purchase four benches
for the nature center patio.

Jones Nature organization to purchase additional benches is
granted, an unencumbered balance of approximately
$192,800 would remain in the Matching Funds budget.
