Item 6A 2nd Reading for Ordinance No. 704-D Sign Ordinance Revisions Overview Restricted parking signs. Sign Walkers/Human Directional Signs. Wayfinding signs. Structural/Non-structural Additions to Monument signs. Clarification on Political signs. Restricted Parking Signs A temporary or permanent sign in a parking lot that restricts parking for any reason. Excludes signs required or authorized by city ordinance or law. Allows 1 sign per 25 spaces, but not less than 2 per tenant. Not to exceed 5 ft. in height or 2 sq. ft. in area. No permit required. Sign Walker (Human Directional Sign) A person, visible from the public R.O.W., that is holding, twirling, or wearing a sign, wearing lights, or wearing a costume to direct vehicular traffic toward draw attention to a business, project, place, or event. Specifically prohibited in 704-D. Coat with lights Wayfinding Sign A government sign that provides direction to locations and facilities. Allowed in R.O.W, including medians. Monument Signs Specify that structural and non-structural additions or attachments to monument signs are prohibited (excluding structural modifications for which a valid permit has been issued). Background color for sign panels shall be consistent. Political Signs Clarify that there are no limitations to type of sign structure for political signs. For example, political signs may be attached signs, ground signs, and/or signs displayed on fences on private property. Council Action June 16, 2009; 1st Reading approved (6-0) on consent. Questions?
