Dean, HI, as Director of Information Technology Action Requested: City Council approval of the appointment of Dale E. Dean, III, as the Director of the Department of Information Technology Background Information: The Southlake Charter requires that "The head of each department shall be a chief, director or superintendent who shall be appointed by the City Manager subject to the approval of the Council and such chief, director or superintendent shall have supervision and control over his department." Dale Dean has served as Vice President of Technical Services/Director of IT for Avail Medical Products since 1997. Since their merger with Flextronics, Mr. Dean manages 50 IT employees and his department provides services to over 13,000 end users worldwide. He has a total of 14 years of IT experience. He has also held IT positions with Hillcrest Baptist Hospital. Mr. Dean holds an Associates Degree from Texas State Technical College and a Bachelor's Degree from University of Phoenix. Mr. Dean will bring to Southlake extensive information technology experience in the private sector and is familiar with IT challenges from a far flung operation and new construction. With your approval his appointment will be effective January 26, 2009. Financial Considerations: This position has been extended to Mr. Dean with a monthly salary of $9,208.33, plus the standard executive benefit package.
