Item 9ACITY OF SOUTHLAKE MEMORANDUM January 27, 2009 TO: Shana Yelverton, City Manager FROM: Chris Tribble, Director of Community Services SUBJECT: Approve the Conceptual Design for Park Monument Signage Action Requested: Approve the conceptual design for park monument signage. Background Information: Two new parks are currently under construction, Liberty Park at Sheltonwood and Royal and Annie Smith Park. Both parks currently do not have park signs designed. Several existing parks throughout Southlake do not have visible park signage that meets Southlake design standards. Cooper Designs was contracted to develop a park monument sign for Liberty Park at Sheltonwood and Royal & Annie Smith Park and that could be used in a variety of parks in Southlake. Objectives of the design concept: • Versatile design — Multiple configurations — Various stone or brick options to match park appearance or theme • Traditional and lasting design that signifies a city park • Standardization of design to eliminate recurring design & engineering costs • Maximum visibility of park name with night lighting Financial Considerations: Cost of the monument will vary substantially based on the configuration selected. Standardization of monument design will avoid recurring design costs and custom construction premiums. Strategic Link: This item is linked to the City's Strategy Map related to the focus area of Quality Development and meets the corporate objectives to Invest to Provide and Maintain High Quality Public Assets and to Provide Attractive and Unique Spaces for Enjoyment of Personal Interests.
