Item 6D Department of Planning & Development Services S T A F F R E P O R T February 25, 2009 CASE NO:SV09-001 PROJECT:Sign Variance for Panera Bread Bakery Café #1367 REQUEST: Starlight Sign, on behalf of Panera, LLC, is requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704-C requirements for attached signs for Panera Bread Bakery Café #1367. The restaurant is located at 2140 East Southlake Boulevard, Suite R in the Village Center retail development. The applicant is presenting two options for consideration in coordination with the site plan request (ZA09-003). Option A includes one sign on the tower facing southeast, one sign on the tower facing southwest, and one blade sign on the west elevation. The signs on the tower have internally illuminated channel letters and a logo. Option B also includes one sign on the tower facing southeast, one sign on the tower facing southwest, and one blade sign on the west elevation. The signs on the tower include a background panel to provide a contrast against the neutral color of the tower. With either option, the two signs on the tower exceed the maximum letter height, maximum logo height, and maximum area permitted under Sign Ordinance No. 704-C. PROPERTY SITUATION: The property address is 2140 East Southlake Boulevard, Suite R HISTORY: On June 7, 2005, City Council approved a sign variance to allow three signs for Anderson’s Furniture and Design Gallery, each with a maximum letter height of 27 inches.
