Item 9A Department of Planning & Development Services S T A F F R E P O R T May 13, 2009 CASE NO:SV09-009 PROJECT:Sign Variance for Garage Outfitters REQUEST: Garage Outfitters of Southlake, LLC, is requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704-C regulations for letter height of an attached sign and for duration of a banner. The subject property is located at 2707 East Southlake Boulevard, Suite 110. Specifically, the applicant is requesting a letter height of 20.5 inches for an attached sign on the west elevation facing South Nolen Drive. Under Sign Ordinance No. 704- C, the maximum allowed letter height for this location is 16 inches. In addition, the applicant is requesting to display a banner until July 17, 2009. The applicant has already exhausted the provisions for a grand opening banner (15 days) and a regular banner (15 days). The banner extension is requested due to difficulties in obtaining a permanent sign for the east elevation as a result of differing signage requirements of the Garage Outfitters franchise and the applicant’s landlord. Although the franchise and landlord have agreed on a sign design for the east elevation, a banner is still necessary to allow time for fabrication and installation of the permanent sign.
