PROJECT: Sign Variances for Restoration Church
EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY: Mello Sign, on behalf of Restoration Church, is requesting approval of variances to
Sign Ordinance No. 704, as amended, for a proposed attached business sign to be
installed atop a knee wall near the main entrance of the building located at 1280 E.
Highland Street.
REQUEST: Mello Sign is requesting approval of sign variances for an attached business sign,
identified as Sign 1, to be installed atop a knee wall on the north side of the building
to assist visitors in easily identifying and locating the church entrance.
The request has been evaluated in comparison to a standard monument sign. The
proposed sign consists of channel letters mounted on a raceway and installed on a
knee wall. Variances are required because the sign type is not specifically permitted,
the sign exceeds the maximum allowable width, and the sign face is not framed in
masonry as required under Sign Ordinance No. 704-J.

HISTORY: No sign history for this location.
SIGN BOARD: The Sign Board meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held on May 21,
2026.
CITY COUNCIL: The City Council meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held on June 16,
2026.
STAFF COMMENTS: City Council approval of this request does not waive the requirement to
obtain a sign permit prior to installation. All signage must be reviewed and
approved through the City’s permitting process before any installation takes
place.
Because the footing has already been installed, engineered verification (also
referred to as an engineer’s letter or certification) is required.
