Election.
Action
Requested: Appoint representatives to the Audit Committee, Southlake Parks
Development Corporation, Corridor Planning Committee, and Southlake
Arts Council as a result of the May 2, 2026, uncontested General
Election.
Background
Information: Several Southlake boards and commissions include City Council
appointees. Board members are typically two years, unless an individual
is appointed to fill a vacancy. During their time in office, Council members
are assigned to serve on various boards. However, board terms often do
not align with Council members’ elected terms. As a result, when a
Council member leaves office, it may create a vacancy on the associated
board or commission.
The Audit Committee members consist of the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and
the Deputy Mayor Pro Tem and are appointed annually when the Mayor
Pro Tem and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem are selected.
For the Corridor Planning Committee, City Council has made ex-officio
appointments in the past, such as former City Council members.
Relative to the Southlake Arts Council, the ex-officio position would be a
newly appointed position. The Southlake Arts Council bylaws under
Article II – Board Members; Section 2.1 – Composition and Terms of
Office (f), states the following: “The City Council may also appoint ex-
officio members to serve as non-voting advisors to the Arts Council. Such
ex-officio members may include but are not limited to the design architect
and/or engineer or the City’s project manager. Ex-officio members are not
required to be citizens of the City.”
The current members of each board are as follows, and the highlighted
areas are for consideration this evening:
